NORTH BAY — A local woman with three decades of experience in the fashion industry has opened a business designed to outfit men who dislike shopping for clothes.
Lori Beth Mendelsohn styled Lou Ferrigno for the old TV show “The Incredible Hulk,” has had her own brand sold in Barneys, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue and has owned several businesses. Her latest business is Uncommon Man.
In a news release, Mendelsohn explained that her business starts with a call to figure out what the man needs and what she can do for him. Next she does a closet cleaning, removing what is unwanted or out of date. She makes an inventory of all the things that do work, photographs them and creates a “look book.”
Any discarded clothes are given to a local charity to help men in need.
Mendelsohn will then “unobtrusively” accompany her client to department stores, boutiques or highly recommended tailor shops that fit within the man’s budget.
She says that “the style and confidence that is gained translates to personal relationships, performance at work and ultimately, happiness and satisfaction.”
Mendelsohn covers the area from Chicago to Green Bay and to Lake Country.
Prices are as follows:
- A 30-minute phone consultation is free.
- $95 per hour for “styling.”
- $395 for a 4-hour closet clean-out, or audit.
Mendelsohn explained that styling is “determining how a man wants to present himself to the world … setting a particular look, or style for each individual”; shopping for the clothing, ordering it online or having it custom-made for the client.
“It’s about giving someone taste or sophistication whereas they didn’t have it before,” Mendelsohn remarked. “It means getting a man out of a (Green Bay) Packer jersey and into something more appropriate for a situation.”
